Photograph a measured section of fabric
A fabric photograph has pixels but no reliable physical dimensions. Place the cloth flat, keep the camera square to its surface and include a ruler while setting up the shot. Crop the image to the exact rectangular section you measured. Enter the width of that entire cropped section, not the width of a single flower unless the whole image contains exactly that flower repeat.
Orient the lengthwise grain vertically in the photo before uploading. The workbench preserves this orientation for every cut rectangle. A quarter-turn block variation rearranges the patch shapes; it does not rotate the fabric image or silently cut a directional print across the grain. A cropped image that is skewed by camera perspective will remain skewed in the preview.
Compare scale before judging the arrangement
Start with the original generated fabrics to understand the A, B and C assignments. Upload one local swatch at a time, enter its measured width and regenerate the same layout. Large motifs may span several patches while a small repeated pattern may appear nearly solid at an overview scale. Use the patch selector and zoom control to inspect a particular block.
The preview samples each patch from its planned fabric-cut coordinates, excluding the seam portions that become hidden during sewing. This creates a consistent relationship between the cutting map and the finished image. It does not invent a perfect repeat: when the image boundary is reached, the pixels tile from the other side. Visible joins in a poorly cropped photograph can therefore repeat across the design.
Keep visual limits separate from cutting dimensions
Lighting, camera processing, screen settings and a printer all affect apparent color. Use real fabric samples when making a final purchasing decision. The planner cannot guarantee color matching, remove camera distortion or align special motifs along every seam. Fussy cutting requires a separate allowance and a deliberate placement plan.
Only local PNG and JPEG images are supported, with strict byte and pixel limits. They are resampled for a bounded preview; original metadata and filenames are omitted from the output. The downloaded preview still contains the visible fabric image, so share it with the same care you would share the photograph. No project is automatically saved in the browser. Download the layout and records before leaving if you want to retain the work.
